Tribute to Louis Armstrong

"A Tribute to Louis Armstrong" celebrates the centennial
anniversary of the birth of the great "Satchmo"
who would have been one hundred years old
on August 4 th, 2001.

Armstrong´s personality and musical genius left a definitive mark, not only in the history of Jazz, but also in other musical forms of expression of the twentieth century --especially various generations of singers.

This show is presented as a sextet reminiscent in style of Satchmo´s "All Strars". Although not chronological, the show is retrospective of some of the most "inevitable" songs which Armstrong immoratlized, such as "Tiger Rag", "Cornet Chop Suey", "When You´re Smiling" and the unnavoidable "Hello Dolly".

Personel: Trumpet-vocals, clarinet, trombone, guitar-vocals, bass, drums.

This show may also be presented in a Big Band version featuring a guest singer such as in the event "Porto 2001 European Cultural Capital" with guest singer Angela Hagenbach.

"...unforgetable...the genius of trumpeter Laurent Filipe superbly accompanied by the Louis Armstrong orchestra...Satchmo himself would have loved to be on stage."
